Dancing queen will be missed

Eden Park's 'langarm' dance queen will not be seen dancing on the floor anymore. Her life came to an abrupt end when she passed away in hospital on Sunday, November 9.

EDEN PARK – The late Grace Lubbe was well known for her love and passion for dancing. She would never miss any dance at the community hall, regardless of which band was performing. With her loving friend, Cynthia Mantion, they would travel to places like Boksburg, Benoni, Ennerdale and Aldorado Park for ‘langarm’ dancing.

Grace, the community worker, will be missed for her work with the abused women and children at the Eden Park Police Station. She was in charge of the Victim Support Centre at the station, where she started in 1999 as the secretary of the CPF (Community Police Forum). After 2000 she volunteered to work in the Trauma Centre.

She will be missed for her commitment and dedication to her job. She never failed to attend to any case at the station regardless of the time of day. She would leave her children in the middle of night and drive to her office to attend to a trauma case or a women or girl in a rape case.

The Dancing Queen has been sick and hospitalised for the past three months, and could not even attend her sister’s funeral in October. She will dance no more, but will always be remembered. Rest in peace, dear Grace.
