Alberton’s lost a beloved music teacher

Alberton's beloved and respected music teacher Marica Regnart from Marica School of Music passed away on September 5.

ALBERTON – Apart from teaching music at the Marica School of Music, she performed at countless functions. Marica adjudicated at several music festivals and music examinations including eisteddfods, ALMSA and the Yamaha Music festivals, where she was directly involved in negotiations between SA and representatives from Japan.

Marica was a music teacher at several pre-primary schools and primary schools. She conducted various school and private choirs. Many of Marica’s students and choirs were entered for the Alberton eisteddfod for many years with outstanding results.

Marica’s own compositions range from light jazz and classical to over 10 school anthems. Having a unique style, Marica also developed her own music curriculum for piano learners from pre-grade one to eight.

The legacy of Marica is celebrated and joyously lives on in the hearts of her many students, her children, grandchildren, husband and her friends. Mostly, her spirit lives on in the many scores of music she had masterly created.

She is remembered for her relentless pursuit to motivate her students and demonstrate their innate capacity and talent to succeed in music and in life.

Teaching in Alberton since 1963 till the time of her passing on September 5, 2014, Marica was, and remains to be, a catalyst to the musician within. Her life is testimony to living with determination and following the path of beauty in excellence.
