New look for day care centre

A three-classroom day care centre with kitchen, storeroom and bathrooms was built to ensure the safety of the children.

THOKOZA – Maphindi Day Care Centre in Thokoza was recently rebuilt ‘from the foundation up’ thanks to the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation (NCCF) and children, parents, teachers and sponsors gathered round to celebrate.

A previous NCCF visit to the day care centre noted that the school was near collapse, making it unsafe for the 45 children. Thanks to funding from the Nashua group and Ricoh International, a three-classroom day care centre with kitchen, storeroom and bathrooms was built.

Helen Fraser from the NCCF was handed the key to the centre, while Rudolph Vorster, HR Director of Nashua Mobile, cut the ribbon. The centre was opened to applause from excited children and very committed parents. “We gave the little ones party treats to celebrate, and two past pupils along with a couple of adults performed a Zulu dance,” said Fraser.

Centre Director Betty Skosana cried and smiled through most of the proceedings, and could not thank the NCCF enough. She also congratulated the parents, who assisted with the cost of floor tiles, carpets, curtains, kitchen fittings and provided the jumping castle, face painter, and balloon artists for the day’s party.
