702 and Dis-Chem Foundation donate wheelchairs

A desperate call for wheelchairs at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital has been answered by 702 and Dis-Chem Foundation’s Random Acts of Kindness and 50 high quality wheelchairs have been handed over to Mr Gideon Sithole, Chairperson of the board at the hospital.

Earlier in October, during the Afternoon Drive on 702, Xolani Gwala read out a desperate plea by Dr. Nicola, a medical doctor at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, in which she explained the dire need for wheelchairs at the hospital.

Upon hearing this request, Xolani called on Dis-Chem Foundation founder Lynette Saltzman, who was eager to donate wheelchairs to the value of R75 000. Lynette said this donation is intended to help in the struggle at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

In Dr. Nicola’s email she explained: “As you already know, resources are very scarce within our setting…. We currently have 100 patients on a list waiting for wheelchairs. We do have a few wheelchairs that are retained for patients attending rehab facilities and bilateral leg amputees. We were wondering if you would be able to aid us if possible,” she explained.

After the announcement was made on air, Sithole was elated at the news. He told Xolani that this is quite exciting and that he is thankful to 702 and the Dis-Chem Foundation for identifying the hospital as the recipient of the donation.

Xolani thanked Lynette for heeding the call of wheelchairs. “All of 702-land would like to thank you very much for this act of kindness.”
