Gauteng Diwali Festival – the festival of lights

The festival of lights holds great prestige, not only in the Hindu communities across the world, but has gained popularity in a diversity of cultures as well, will be hosted on Saturday October 11 and Sunday October 12.

Visitors can expect a kaleidoscope of talent, including popular and upcoming singers, dancers, and accompanying instrumentalists.

There will also be entertainment and games for children and a seminar tent comprising various well known speakers to enlighten the audience in sectors such as business, health, Hinduism and life empowerment.

The highlight of the festival is the fireworks display on Saturday evening. Festival goers stand a chance of winning exceptional prizes, ranging from a three-night cruise (December 5 – 8) to the Portuguese Islands and a two-night stay for two at Southern Sun Hyde Park hotel.

The Bosso Showdown

The showdown is not to be missed and will be at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on Friday November 7 and Wednesday December 5.

The Bosso Showdown showcases South African talent and serves as a great platform to further develop up-and-coming artists.

Fans of singing, dancing and poetry will have an opportunity to see the future of South African stars during this pilot season.

Comedy Wednesday

In true Birthday style, EyeUnderm Productions in association with Mzansi Magic present Comedy Wednesdays Third Birthday Celebration.

This joyous celebration will take place at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on Saturday October 18.

The comedy line-up includes South Africa’s funniest comedians, such as Tol Ass Mo, Celeste Ntuli, Skhumba Hlophe and many more.

Bala Brothers in Concert

The incredibly talented Bala Brothers are set to perform a two-night concert special at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City on Friday October 24 and Saturday October 25.

This musical treat will be filmed as a special television recording for the acclaimed American channel Public Broadcasting Service, popularly known as PBS.

The show will tell the story of brothers Zwai, Loyiso and Phelo Bala, focusing on their journey from humble beginnings, by using their amazing voices to gain scholarships to study at the Drakensberg Boys Choir School in Kwazulu-Natal, and in turn each going on to carve successful solo careers in the South African music industry.

Local comedy show

A South African comedy show, Goliath and Goliath, will celebrate their third AWEdnesday Birthday at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on the Wednesday October 29.

In three short years, the Goliaths have had a meteoric rise in the South African comedy scene. Starting out with a small club gig called AWEdnesday they now run seven comedy gigs across Johannesburg.

They have created a very welcomed platform for aspiring comedians and legends as well as a space for all comedy lovers new and old.
