Elderly man dies in accident

Llewellyn Adams, fondly known as Lew (74) from Raceview, was killed in an accident on the corner of Ring Road West and Fore Street on Sunday afternoon when he was involved in a collision with two BMWs.

ALBERTON – An ER 24 report states that when paramedics arrived on the scene, they found Mr Adams still in his Corsa with fatal injuries.There was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene.

EMPD reports that three vehicles where involved. The first BMW, driven by a 24-year-old man, collided with another BMW, driven by a 21-year-old man. Both these vehicles collided with Mr Adams’ car. The 24-year old sustained slight injuries and the 21-year-old sustained no visible injuries.

Paramedics found a BMW on its roof a few metres away, with both occupants outside the vehicle. A woman, believed to be the passenger in the first BMW, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care. The driver of the BMW declined to be transported to hospital.

Mr Adams dropped his wife Annetjie, who is employed at the Alberton RECORD’s admin department, at Alberton City to do some shopping. He was supposed to fetch her at 14:00. Mrs Adams only found out that her husband was killed in the accident when her neighbour came to fetch her at Alberton City.

Llewellyn Adams leaves behind his wife of more than 40 years, Annetjie, his daughter Tanya, son in law Rudi and two grandchildren, Zander and Wyatt.

He will be laid to rest on Thursday, October 9 at 12:00 from the Gospel Resource Centre, on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Street, Alberton North.

At this stage the exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known. The incident was handed over to local authorities for further investigation and to establish the exact cause. A case of culpable homicide was opened. The RECORD will keep our readers updated.
