Man clocks 168km/h in a 120km/h zone

EMPD caught three speedsters on Sunday, September 28.

ALBERTON – A 66-year-old male driver in a white Range Rover was caught doing 168km/h in a 120km/h zone on September 28 at 07:10.

The driver was arrested and the man claimed that he was exceeding the speed limit because he did not want the pastor to be late for his early morning sermon. He was caught along N12 eastbound between the R59 and Voortrekker turnoffs.

Two more speedsters, one on a Kawasaki motorbike and the other in a Ford Fiesta, were nabbed between 09:00 and 09:18 doing 177km/h and 161km/h respectively. Both male drivers in their thirties claimed they were rushing home.

All three arrestees were locked up at Alberton police station and later released on bail of R1 000 each.

They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of reckless and negligent driving.
