A new bus for Ligstad

Ligstad seeks to empower the community of Alberton North to be a beacon of hope

ALBERTON – An anonymous sponsor reacted to a voiced need for a bus at the Ligstad community development project in order to be better able to reach the community of Alberton.

With their help and some other corporates promising to assist in financing Ligstad in this regard, the bus was delivered on a beautiful morning on Monday September 15 by Mr Richard Greaves, and received by Rev Willie Badenhorst III, who is amazed as his church will also make use of the bus.

Ligstad is a community development project functioning from Alberton North, on the corner of Van Riebeeck Avenue and Gerrit Maritz Street.

The organisation has been using the busses of the Mzansi Youth Choir to transport the children of the aftercare centre from the schools to the aftercare in the afternoons since January 2013.

“Thanks be to the Lord who provides through the community. and to all community members who reacted to the need in their community,” said the happy social worker Alida Jooste.

The focus of the project is families, specifically children and the elderly. Ligstad believes that many services may be born from this project, but the focus for the establishment of the project needed to be the two mentioned focus areas.

By means of various upliftment community projects and communication from the centre, future services envisaged will be made possible to address true needs, such as skills training and the development of entrepreneurs.

Ligstad has a vision to empower the community of Alberton North to be a beacon of hope in the world we live in, and a mission to uplift the community, in dependence on God, by means of proactive community development services rendered by the community to the community, in order for the community to function independent of the welfare system.
