Parents call on Minister of Education for intervention

Parents of Eden Park Secondary School are concerned about the failure rate of the learners. According to parents the failure rate is 83 per cent, and there is a lack of textbooks in the school.

EDEN PARK -A letter compiled by Rev Larry Varrie and other parents to the Minister of Education Ms Angie Motshekga states that they are concerned about the high failure rate that the school is experiencing. They are also concerned with the lack of textbooks at the school.

“The department can confirm that the Eden Park Secondary School is a no fee-paying school. We are aware of shortages in grade 8 and 9 and Edu-solution will deliver the books next week.

We are very concerned about the poor performance for the half-year examination in certain grades. The department is doing a thorough assessment to find out what could have led to this situation, with a view of finding measures to improve performance. Our District Curriculum section is working with the school to ensure that performance improves,” the Department of Education said.

The RECORD will be investigating the situation and keep our readers informed on any developments.
