Drug addict sets house on fire

The drugged youngster was arrested and made his first appearance in the Palmridge Magistrate Court.

EDEN PARK – On Tuesday August 26 everything was normal and peaceful at a house in Leyland Street, until all hell broke out when a 24-year-old, high on drugs, set the whole house on fire.

It is alleged by the young man’s father that the son, who is a drug addict, had an argument with members of the family, when he decided to set the house on fire.

The father and owner of the house, Brian Paecock, said: “After the argument with his sister, he set the whole house on fire and ran away. His drug habit has been a big problem in the house. I have lost everything in the house. I am thankful to the people of the street who helped to fight the fire. When the fire fighters arrived, the fire was already extinguished, although everything had burnt to ashes.”

It was further alleged by witnesses that the culprit ran into a house to hide but was caught by community members, who called the police. The drugged youngster was arrested and made his first appearance in the Palmridge Magistrate Court.
