Saving money is the game plan

Saving for your future for something you may need one day

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The official launch of the third instalment of Smartbucks ‘mind your moolah’, a youth financial literacy initiative, took place at Gold Reed City Crown Reef Convention Centre on August 26.

Managing money was the main topic discussed and Martin Sweet, the Managing Director of Primestars marketing thanked all the companies that participated at the function.

It’s about being money wise and educating how the youth work with money. Martin mentioned that one of the issues is that there is poor saving when people want to put away money for something important.

The Retail Managing Director of Stanlib, Bongani Mageba, explained that the savings rate of South Africa is very low and that very few people have money, while others struggle and battle to make it through. “As a country, we are living below our means,” said Bongani.

MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi thanked all for seeing the importance of the programme. He and others are in the process of repositioning themselves to deal with the components of education and are looking into schools doing pure mathematics by 2017.

His discussion also touched on levelling the quality of education and implementing new ways to improve education, which will be utilising various methods such as the use of iPads for learners.

“It is only through education that you can break the shackles of poverty,” he said.
