Bunking learners blazed shack to the ground

Three bunking teenagers started a fire in a shack in the back yard when they decided to strip electric wires.

EDEN PARK – On August 14, a 14-year-old learner decided to bunk school and remain at home after his father left for work. Everything was allright until his friends arrived at his home to spend the day.

It is alleged by the 14-year-old that while they were sitting in the shack, used as a storeroom, one of his friends stripped off the electrical wires from an old washing machine.

“My friend started a fire to strip off the plastic from the copper and the curtains caught fire and then many old newspapers caught fire. Suddenly the whole shack was on fire and my friends ran away,” said the boy.

Police contacted the Palmridge Fire Department and the four boys were taken to the police station. The father was summoned home. Nothing is left of the shack.
