Remembering a legend

Rock ‘n roll for Elvis appreciation

AN evening to remember, when the legendary Elvis Presley passed away in 1977, was celebrated on August 16 at the Reading Country Club in Fore Street.

This was the 35th anniversary tribute fundraiser event, and all funds raised by the Blue Suede Heaven Elvis Appreciation Group will be distributed to their charities.

To remember that a legend passed away, as Jennie Baldree put it: “This is to celebrate the life of Elvis Presley”, and was exactly what everyone did. The evening was pure rock ‘n roll, and what better than to serve rock ‘n roll style food, which according to Lainy Hendry is junk food.

Everyone was ready to dance the night away with Nancy Mawdesly, who instructed them to use their footwork correctly.

Added entertainment came from two Elvis impersonators, Charl van Tonder and Wayne Venter, sang all-time favourites and classics, which Elvis performed back in his day.

A prize of a ‘cruise raffle’ for a three-night cruise to Cape Town was won by Stuart Hendry. The other prizes included a weekend for two at a lodge in Magaliesberg, won by Brenda Vicente, and a two-night stay in Botswana, won by Ingrid Cuzen.
