Eight shooting suspects nabbed

Gauteng police confirmed that eight suspects were arrested after the shooting that claimed four lives on Monday afternoon.

EVATON – A total of eight suspects were arrested for allegedly shooting dead four men and injuring others at Palm Springs Mall in Evaton, south of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

News24 quoted Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini as saying “Three of these suspects were shot and wounded and are under police guard at the Sebokeng Hospital.

“Eleven rifles and a hand gun were confiscated from security guards (Gumede Protection Service). The guards are alleged to have been employed by a taxi association operating from the Palm Springs shopping mall.”

According to News24 four minibus taxis were also impounded as reports suggest that investigations would continue and the number of arrests may increase.

On Monday, August 18, ER24 spokesperson Luyanda Majija said the four men, including a security guard, were already dead when paramedics arrived on the scene.

Another man sustained critical injuries and was taken to Sebokeng Hospital.

Three other security guards sustained moderate injuries from an alleged assault and were taken to the Mediclinic Emfuleni.
