KATLEHONG – The newly built 821 bed regional Hospital will be officially opened on Thursday August 28. Amongst others, the facility will offer services such as: Family Medicine; 24 Hour Casualty; Medico-Legal, Obstetric and Gynecological; Ophthalmology; Mortuary, Radiography and Eye Nose Throat Clinic. The Hospital has four operating theatres.
The new hospital will take referrals from clinics, Community Health Care Centres, district hospitals from Katlehong, Vosloorus, Thokoza, Magugala Heights, Zonkizikwe, Phola Park, Palm Ridge, Eden Park, Germiston and Leondale etc.
As of today, the old Natalspruit Hospital will not be taking walk in patients. In the interim, patients are requested not to come to the hospital, but to approach or visit their nearest healthcare facilities such as Bertha Gxowa in Germiston; Pholosong in Tsakane; Far East- Rand Hospital in Springs; Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg and Heidelberg Hospital.
On Sunday, Forensic Pathology Services (FPS) moved the bodies to the new hospital after informing the families.
About 500 patients are being migrated to the new facility by internal and external departments (Gauteng EMS and Districts, Health Transport Department Ekurhuleni EMS – DEMS, EMPD and Transport, City of Tshwane and Netcare 911) to ensure that patient care and health services are not compromised.
Where required the Hospital staff are accompanying patients in buses and ambulances whilst nursing staff and physicians are accompanying ICU patients and high risk patients respectively.
The diversion of patients started on August 14 and over the past weekend, a number of patients were evaluated and referred to other facilities.
The relocation and opening of the New Natalspruit Hospital is in line with the commitment made by the Gauteng Premier, David Makhura during the State of the Province Address to open the new Natalspruit Hospital within 100 days of taking office.
After all patients have moved in the next hour the buildings in the old hospital will be decontaminated in the coming days. The Department of Infrastructure will take over the facility and implement the demolish plan.
