Five dead after Meyersdal building collapsed

Some people still trapped under rubble, approximately five presumed dead after a Meyerdal Eco Estate building collapsed on Monday, August 18.

Meyersdal – Paramedics and other services are currently on the scene in Meyersdal Eco Estate, Alberton after a building collapsed.

Upon their arrival on scene they found multiple people were injured after a house that is currently being built collapsed on top of the people.

Some people are still trapped under the rubble and services are currently busy with a search and rescue operation to free the trapped people.

Several men have been injured and approximately five are presumed to be dead after a structural collapse in Alberton, Johannesburg South this morning.

Paramedics along with various emergency services on scene have treated approximately nine patients with injuries ranging from minor to serious. They have been transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Paramedics are still on the scene working to free the construction workers still trapped in the rubble.

The exact cause of the collapse is unclear at this stage. Exact detail to the cause of the incident and preceding events will remain the subject of an investigation.
