AMCARE offices on the move

Moving the office took hours of careful planning with factors such as entrance gates that were too narrow and overhead electric wiring which had to be taken into account and planned for.

NEWMARKET –  Excitement prevailed in the streets of Phola Park Squatter Camp last week when a huge truck carrying a 15 metre long office container made its way from the Methodist Church grounds in Phola Park to the Enochayini Scool in the squatter camp.

Transvaal Heavy Transport in Alrode and the Ekurhuleni Energy Department pulled together to help the AMCARE Centre of Faith, Hope & Love move their Phola Park offices to its new home at the Enochayini School, a primary school catering for pupils from grade R to 7.

“We had no access to basic facilities such as water and electricity on the Methodist church grounds and we simply had no choice but to move to the school premises where our services are welcomed, and where we are even closer to those in desperate need,” says Percy Howroyd, general manager at AMCARE.

The office houses the AMCARE caregivers working in the townships, acts as a collection point for food parcels, and is a meeting place for the elderly as well as orphaned and vulnerable children attending support groups.

Moving the office took hours of careful planning and coordination between the different parties. Factors such as entrance gates that were too narrow, overhead electric wiring, streets littered with rocks and garbage and established gardens on the school grounds had to be taken into account and planned for.

“I wish to thank Sampie Swanepoel and his team from Transvaal Heavy Transport for the amazing act of kindness in helping us to move this office. Also a very special thank you to Sam Mokoena and Nomfesane Jokazi and their team from the Ekurhuleni Energy Department for their contribution and assistance in helping us and ensuring the move went smoothly,” says Percy.

“In faith we go forth and we are just grateful that we are now in a position to deliver on our promises, and provide our services to those so much less fortunate than us. For that I also have to thank Mrs Sindy Maphofo, principal at the school, for whom nothing was too much in accommodating us,” he concludes.
