Another cellphone store robbed

The Vodacom store in Lemon Tree robbed by four males. Residents are already drawing to the conclusion this is the work of a syndicate.

ALBERTON – FOUR males robbed the Vodacom store in Lemon Tree on Friday August 15.
According to witnesses and store-owners two of the four men came into the shop and presented themselves as customers, asking to purchase chargers.
They then pulled a gun on the store assistant and proceeded to tie him up with cable ties and put him in the back of the store. They demanded the keys to the safe. One of the males stayed with the assistant while another stole ten cellphones. There was a third male keeping a look out at the door and the fourth was in the car keeping the engine running.
Witnesses said the men were well dressed and they assumed they were customers.
According to different reports, this is not the first robbery a store has experienced at the Lemon Tree recently. The Muchachos was robbed about a week ago and there have been allegations that patrons have been targeted when they draw money from ATM’s in the centre.
There has been multiple cellphone stores targeted the past few weeks. Cresta iStore was robbed on Wednesday and The Glen Shopping Centre’s iStore early Thursday evening. Residents are already drawing to the conclusion this is the work of a syndicate. A week prior to this, the Telkom store in Alberton City was robbed and one customer was grazed after shots were fired.
The RECORD will keep readers updated as we are awaiting official comment from the centre, store owner and Alberton Police.
