Students of Ekurhuleni West College learn about serious issues

Kotex and Code Teen are continuing in their journey to ‘make over’ the lives of thousands of young women aged between 17 and 25 across South Africa through the empowering Girlology workshops. Recently the Kotex team visited the Ekurhuleni West College (Alberton Campus).

ALBERTON – The female students of EWC enjoyed a session of empowerment, learning and motivation. There was an opportunity to have some fun with fellow students in ice breakers and group work.

A wide variety of topics were discussed in the workshop. Students had the opportunity to ask burning questions to male guest speakers, who promised to be brutally honest and let the women have a glimpse into how a man’s mind works and how the sexes differ.

Karen Burt, founder of Code Teen and Girlology and a professional life coach, says the workshops tackle serious subjects in a straight-forward way. “Parents and teachers may be too shy or embarrassed to talk honestly about menstruation, drugs, sex or contraception. Yet these girls are entering a phase of life where they need information and answers. The 21st century is a minefield for young women and, together with Kotex, we want to give them the tools to live their lives to the full and reach their maximum potential. Even though the topics may be serious, the ‘fun’ side of being a young woman is not forgotten.”
