Suspects caught red-handed on CCTV footage

Business owner releases CCTV footage to warn other businesses. See how these two suspects create an opportunity to steal a cellphone.

ALBERTON – CCTV footage from Spencer’s Gearbox and Diff repairs shows how two suspects stole a cellphone from their offices.

The two males who came in and posed as customers were inquiring about repairs as a front for what they really wanted to do. In the CCTV footage you can see how they wanted to follow the owner, Spencer Engelbrecht, into the workshop. He then told them that the public is not allowed in the workshop.

At this stage the two suspects are alone in the office with an employee of Spencer’s. One suspect asks for a lukewarm glass of water.

The one suspect briefly blocks the employee so that he cannot get into the front office, at this time you can see how the second suspect opens the door to a closed office and takes something from the desk.

They took the owner’s cellphone off his desk.

“We are usually more than two in the office; it was by chance that on this day my wife was not sitting in the office. They would not have been able to do this otherwise,” Spencer explained.

In the video you can see one suspect speaking on his phone. Spencer explains that he thinks they were actually communicating to each other.

“We can stay quiet and not say anything, but we would rather make this video public so that other businesses in our area can be warned and hopefully the suspects can be caught,” Spencer added.
