Towards a cleaner environment

Keeping the environment clean starts with you

JOHANNESBURG – The Green Business Platform had their monthly meeting at Thaba Eco Hotel and Spa on August 1. Rochelle Ludick, a waste management generalist from Pikitup with a flair for business, was the guest speaker.

The Green Business platform’s objective is to have guest speakers who can share their vision with people who might like to participate. This month’s meeting touched on waste management and recycling initiatives.

Rochelle focused on management efficiency with a project by Pikitup, Jozi@Work ‘Team up to clean up’.

She gets involved with communities and this helped with identifying an area which needed assistance in regards to service delivery issues.

The Jozi@Work will be implemented in the September month and is about confronting and changing the local reality of poverty, inequality and unemployment. Apart from the service delivery issue, the Pikitup team will help communities to divert waste away from landfills and change the perception of the way people think.

The first phase implemented will be Soweto. ‘The reason why Soweto was chosen first is because there is already an infrastructure to utilise the project, also because of the high unemployment rate in the area,’ said Rochelle.
