Woman survives burning car

A woman who is the victim in an incident where a 'petrol bomb' suspect burned her car is believed to be recovering in hospital.

SOUTH CREST – A male suspect who posed as a gardener in South Crest of Kerk Street set a car alight with a female resident in the vehicle around 07:00 on Thursday July 24.

According to Colonel Maswanganyi of Alberton SAPS, the landlady of the premises overheard a quarrel between two tenants staying on her property. Colonel Maswanganyi said the landlady didn’t want the man on the premises anymore.

After the quarrel the suspect obtained fuel and returned to the premises. He found the female tenant, who was about to drive out of the driveway.

He blamed the female resident for getting him thrown out of the premises and then poured petrol into the vehicle and set it alight.

The victim managed to escape from the vehicle and was found lying in the driveway. She was taken to a hospital.

Detectives are still searching for the suspect.
