Suspect steals a sandwich

CCTV footage shows suspect stealing a sandwich from Pick 'n Pay New Redruth

TWO male suspects were shopping at Pick n Pay in New Redruth Village. One was seen stealing on CCTV footage by a female employee of the centre on July 21.

She informed the security guard via a two-way radio to keep an eye on the men. The men were about to leave the store, when the security guard approached them, asking them to come along to be searched.

The two suspects then ran off: The chase with security guards ended in the street outside the store premises. Security guards ran after the suspect and together with CPS Security, managed to catch the one suspect at the corner of St Austell Street.

A CPS security member escorted the man into a section of the Pick n Pay. He was taken in for questioning.

A male car guard on the premises said that the suspect was carrying a Dagwood sandwich in his pants, and said that while he attempted to escape from the Pick n Pay, the suspect threw the Dagwood into the nearby plants.

A number of people commented, “Shame, he must have been hungry.”

The SAPS was contacted and the man was arrested. “We have these types of incidents at least once a week,” said the manager of Pick n Pay, Dawie Ferreira.
