Gungubele to tackle prostitution and crime in Thokoza

Ekurhuleni Mayor will visit Thokoza to address issues of prostitution, crime and underdevelopment.

THOKOZA – Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Cllr Mondli Gungubele will this weekend address the community of Thokoza hostel following reports of prostitution, crime and underdevelopment.

Gungubele is expected to address the community on Sunday at 9am at the Thokoza Auditorium.

“We have heard troubling stories of child prostitution and that crime is rife at the hostel. We have also heard that people are generally confirmed about the state of the hostel hence the mayor’s decision to go down to the community share the city’s plans in dealing with these atrocities,” explains mayoral spokesman Zweli Dlamini.

“We cannot allow our communities to morally degenerate to the extent that young children turn into prostitution for a living.”

Our view as a city is that before communities even decide to take to the streets to vent their frustrations through service delivery protests, we must share with them facts around the development of their areas.

People deserve to know government’s plans about their spaces and that is what we strive to do, Dlamini continues.

At this gathering the Executive Mayor is also expected to touch on the future plan of Mpilisweni informal settlement and plans to curb the ongoing power interruptions in the Thokoza area.

Of particular interest that the community can expect are plans regarding the re-development of the Thokoza hostel.

Yesterday the City of Ekurhuleni led by Executive Mayor Gungubele met with the Office of the Premier to discuss the issue of Thokoza.

“This is clear indication that as government we take the issue serious as expected of a democratic government,” Dlamini explains.
