Product theft leads to spillage near Alrode

An criminal incident outside Alrode near Eden Park resulted in a spillage of product volume which can not be defined at this stage.

ALRODE – Transnet Pipelines reported a theft of product near Eden Park informal settlement outside Alrode on June 11.

This resulted in a spillage of product, the volume of which could not be defined at that stage. The area had been made safe.

The Ekurhuleni Disaster Management team ensured the safety of residents by alerting them to the spillage, the vapours in the air and the associated risks. The response from the teams prevented any further incidents. Vereeniging Road had been closed in the area as an additional safety precaution.

“We would also like to commend the SAPS for their vigilance and for apprehending the perpetrators,” said Saret Knoetze, Manager of Public Relations, Communications and Marketing on behalf of Transnet Pipelines, an Operating Division of Transnet SOC Ltd.

Transnet Pipelines repair and spill control teams were on site and limited the impact to the environment and the public. There was no threat to residents or water supplies.
