Electrical boxes left open all around Brackendowns

Ekurhuleni respond on electrical box concerns in Brackendowns

BRACKENDOWNS/ALBERTON: A community member raised concerns about the condition of electrical boxes in Brackendowns around Moorat Rylaan and Longmere Street on May 19.

The member raised questions and they were addressed to Ekurhuleni and council regarding the problem. The questions were as follows:

Why can’t they (Ekurhuleni) see for themselves that their job is not being done properly? If they have qualifications to do the job, why must they wait for the public to raise the question of the problems or to show them?

Why must we pay for services that are dangerous? If our family or children get hurt, then we have to start saving up for future expenses.

The electrical department is supposed to have an electrical engineer and under him should be other assistant engineers and under them should be electrical foreman and inspectors- what is going on here? Why are the electrical boxes in such a bad state?

Most of Brackendowns is facing this problem.

Councillor Haipel DA ward councillor responded with:

The issue of the open meter boxes has been raised by me on many occasions with the electricity department. It is not only an issue only in Brackendowns, this is a universal problem.

Many excuses have been given to us.

Meter readers lose the keys and cut the locks. Locks are stolen for scrap. Cable ties are used and broken then meters stay open. Residents open boxes to get readings etc etc.

EMM comment regarding electrical boxes: We are currently busy in Florentia and Verwoerd Park fixing damaged meter boxes and installing broken local mechanisms. When we are done, we will turn our attention to Brackendowns and Brackenhurst areas.
