Two trucks involved in an accident without a collision

ALBERTON – A massive pile-up occurred on the R59 highway on May 21, when a truck tilted over and slid down the hill into Danie Theron Street, Alberante, while another truck’s load landed on the highway.

Samuel Letsoela was driving from Johannesburg on his way to Vereeniging and was going back to a yard of the company where he works.

He noticed that the other truck was parked on the side of the highway. It was loaded with metal bars and when he approached the truck, only 30 meters away, the load fell off the truck.

He drove over the load, lost control of the vehicle, hit the barrier and the truck turned onto its side and slid down the hill into the Alberante area close to Danie Theron Street.

The paramedics from ER 24 were on the scene and Carl Phaka said that the man was assessed and they found nothiong wrong, he had no injuries.

“I feel fine and I am grateful and happy that I am still alive. I am still thanking God and my ancestors,” said Samuel.

Samuel had signed RHT (refused hospital transport).

Crytone Turiu, the truck driver of the vehicle with the load, noticed that the truck load had shifted and stopped on the side of the highway.

He heard a noise and saw the load fall off. Then he saw the other truck going down the hillside.
