Colour me May at Women’s Connection meeting

The Alberton Women’s Connection's theme for the month was "Colour me May". They met on May 14 at the Brackenhurst Bowling club. They had the privilege of hosting two speakers who came to share their inspiration and stories.

ALBERTON: Keith Russell is a trauma counsellor and one of a group of 18 volunteers who work with the Linden Police Station. This group of volunteers handle cases ranging from attempted suicides, rapes, baby desertions, armed robberies and murders. Keith is on standby 24/7, and even though he gets little sleep he is never happier than when he can calm a person who has experienced a trauma. He encouraged the audience to be of service to their fellow men and to adopt a positive outlook on life.

Elsé Denysschen used a multi coloured scarf to talk about her life story. All the joys and the heartaches; every colour of her scarf represented a different stage of her life and the emotion she experienced. Nikki Christie, the chairperson, said that “Elsé’s gentle dignity touched the audience to the last”.

Their next meeting is June 9 at the Brackenhurst Bowling club. Pam van Niekerk will be speaking about her life and work dealing with cancer patients. Hazel from Sh’zen will be responsible for a pampering session. For more details you can contact Kathy Thiel on 083 300 0014 or thiel@telkomsa.net
