Suspect injured during jump to freedom

A suspect was caught climbing onto a roof at a complex in New Redruth.

ALBERTON – On May 6 at around 06:00 one of the security officers of CPS patrolling New Redruth spotted a black male climbing onto a roof of a complex at the corner of Ring Road East and Redruth Street.

The officer saw the man climb onto the roof and he immediately called the control room via his two-way radio. Additional vehicles were sent for backup, and on their arrival, they blocked all access routes so the suspect could not escape.

According to Nardus Hollander, the suspect attempted to come in through the roof tiles in one of the complexes, attempting to break in. He decided to jump from the roof, which is about three stories high, but misjudged and missed the palisade fencing by a meter.

According to CPS security information and various members of the community, the man is one of the usual men who beg at Voortrekker and Ring roads.

The paramedics were called in by a CPS member and the man was attended to. He had sustained various injuries due to his fall.

  1. Pity he did not hit the palisades, now we as tax payers pay his medical bills too. Should have broken his neck.
