Alberton’s Johann is still in the running for Mr SA

This vibrant 27-year-old audit clerk has big dreams and plans for the brand Mr SA.

ALBETON – Like all other competitors, Johann Herbst’ dream is to walk away with the prestigious Mr SA title on December 12 when the finals will be hosted in Gauteng.

Johann is one of the Top 50 finalists for the Mr South Africa 2014 competition and is hoping to go through to the Top 25 after the second formal competition workshop on June 7.

This vibrant 27-year-old audit clerk, describes himself as ambitious in everything he does. He has big dreams and plans for the brand Mr SA.

Johann aspires to inspire people through his ethical and enthusiastic approach to life. “I will never disregard my morals, values and integrity for the sake of fitting in or being popular,” he told the RECORD. “All glory is to God for providing me with opportunities daily and blessing me with the strength to accept and excel in my job and my personal life.”

Family life is very important to Johann, who was one of a set of in-vitro triplets listed in the record books as the first in-vitro triplets in South Africa and second in the world. “The Herbst family does everything together and everything we do, we do to the best of our ability. I am a firm believer that actions speak louder than words, and I am convinced that I can make a difference as an ambassador for South Africa.”

Johann is presently actively involved in a two charities, namely the official Mr SA charity – J9 Foundation, also known as the Joost van der Westhuizen Foundation and Hanna Charity & Empowerment foundation.

One of Johann’s challenges was fundraising, and he would like to thank everyone who supported him. “Through the newspaper I would also like to announce my winners, so congratulations to the first prize winner: five nights at Shelly Beach, Mr. Berwick Gordon ticket #0964, second prize of a professional photoshoot is Miss Chivonne Naude #0120; third prize, an Amara Day SPA voucher, goes to Miss. Candy Benson #0847 and the fourth prize, dinner for two at The Promise Grill in Alberton, is Mr. Mannetjie van der Merwe #0774.

What will Johann’s contribution be if you should become Mr South Africa?

“I will take my life experience and skills and qualities and share it with all South Africans, specially people who have not been so privileged, and do my best to make a difference in the lives of young and old.

“Should I be chosen as Mr SA 2014, it will not be the end of an achievement, but the beginning of a new journey to inspire a new era of boys and men, even girls and womae, as a role model, ambassador and leader in South Africa. I want to lead people of South Africa, and help them to see that they can lead and make a difference and in the end getting back the result.”

What qualities do you think the title holder should have?

“My vision for a Mr South Africa is a person that exhibits qualities which set him apart from the average man such as excellence, integrity, professionalism, competence, compassion, honesty and a sense of humour to name but a few. Mr SA must have a great personality, be a fun-loving, openhearted person with a balanced lifestyle, and that means much more than looks. I see Mr SA as a brand; you have to have business skills as well as the will to represent a company. The organisers have made it clear from the start that they’re not looking for a male model but rather a model male,” Johann concluded.
