Food from the people for the people

Through all the years, originality has stayed the same with over 2 000 combinations from Sandwich Baron.

Sally J’Arlette-Jay, founder and franchisee of three Sandwich Barons, started the business in 1996 in Alberton and quickly became very successful after her client-base and an entire menu grew.

Alberton branch will be turning 18 soon, and Germiston and Brackenhurst are doing just as well; with 52 stores nationwide. Sally and the other franchisees are hoping to expand into the informal settlements and open 45 stores in the next three years.

“What made my sandwiches so popular was the freshness of the food and therefore Alberton residents asked me to start a franchise,” said Sally.

Through all the years, originality has stayed the same with over 2 000 combinations – build it as you like it. Sally started off with three salads, rolls and platters; today the menu has grown to anything to do with bread.

You can design your own sandwich on a variety of breads such as rolls, footlongs or pita bread available in white, whole wheat or low GI.

Currently the favourite is chicken mayo, ordered with crispy bacon or avocado.

Many Sandwich Baron clients also prefer the healthier options of which most of the combinations are suitable to most diets.

“We appeal to the blue collar worker and really do not have any competitors in our field of service and food,” Sally said.

Sally also explained that they have a very interactive Facebook page where client feedback, good or bad, are welcome.

Sandwich Baron was also one of the first stores to open an online ordering system to accommodate accurate and easy orders. Visit www.sandwichbaronstore.co.za.
