Council workers demand cash to fix drain

Instead of fixing the drain, municipal work demand money from residents in the area.

EDEN PARK – EDENPALM Taxi Association, in charge of the local taxi rank, has been facing a problem with a blocked drain that has been bubbling over for months with the waste running towards the shopping centre and vegetable stalls.

The drain has been reported to the metro council by an executive member of the taxi association, Walter Gool said, “I reported the drain and was given a reference number. After weeks of waiting, council workers arrived but demanded money if they were to fix the drain.

“I refused to give them cash and said I would consult the association about payment. Since then they never returned.”

At present the toilets can not be used or utilised, because the waste bubbles out inside the facility. The local ward councillor could not be reached to comment on the matter.
