Residents warned about pending bus strike

A looming bus strike set to hit commuters hard.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The City of Johannesburg officials have failed to stop the Rea Vaya bus drivers’ strike, but efforts to resolve the strike are continuing.

Spokesperson for the City Benny Makgoa said: “The City of Johannesburg regrets to inform passengers that last minute attempts by Piotrans to avert a bus strike have failed, the City apologies to passengers for the inconvenience.”

Commuters have been reassured that Piotrans, which manages Rea Vaya bus operations, would continue to engage strikers to resolved the matter.

News24 reported that Gauteng community safety department spokesperson Obed Sibasa said on Sunday that bus drivers would work from 05:00 until 08:00 on Monday, and then go on strike “until further notice”.

“Passengers are advised to look for alternative transport in the afternoon and after work until further notice.” Sibasa urged commuters to arrive early at taxi ranks and bus stops.
