Alberton Cemetery in a sad state

A section of the Alberton cemetery is left with untrimmed grass and graves are left in a state

ALBERTON – Annatjie Derster, is concerned about the condition of the cemetery of Alberton in Florentia.

Her main concern is about the condition of the new section, which is full of untrimmed grass and untidy, and the sad state of the graves. She reported the matter on March 18.

Annatjie had spoken to someone in the facility, who said they would cut the grass and attend to the graves as of March 26, but this had been left unattended for more than five months, as Annatjie can recall.

She visits the graves once a week and finds it quite shocking that it can be left in such a condition.

According to EMM, “A contractor was appointed to start cutting the grass in the cemetery from March 3, however the contractor has since resigned. A new contractor was assigned to start cutting the cemetery grass on Friday, March 28 and is expected to complete the work by Monday, March 31.

“Unfortunately, the cemetery does not have employees, thus the Ekurhukeni Metroplitan Municipality depends on these contractors.”
