Attempted cable theft leaves Alberton in the dark

The majority of Alberton woke up in the dark this morning after an attempted cable theft at one of the substations.

ALBERTON – Ward 37 Councillor Bruna Haipel said the power outage in Alberton was initially caused by an attempted cable theft.

She said, “Although the initial problem was addressed, it was followed by a cable fault which caused further outage.”

It is still unknown when residents of can expect to have electricity back on, as engineers are still at work at Alberton’s main substation.

CCA Manager Stephen Notwha confirmed, “Although I cannot confirm when electricity will be restored in Alberton, I will be visiting the site to find out how the engineers are progressing.”

Since the power outage, electricity seems to be restored in New Redruth, however, areas such as Alberton North are still without electricity.
