A dog bite turns ugly as victim cries foul

Victim claims the owner of the dog refused to compensate her or to pay her medical bill - refuted by the owner.

EDEN PARK – On February 12 young Berenice Jansen approached the RECORD with intentions to expose a dog owner, who refused to compensate her or to pay her medical bill, which has resulted after being bitten by the owner’s dog at the end of January.

Jansen allegedly reported: “I was walking in Hillman Street in the evening, when I was suddenly attacked by a vicious dog. I called the owner but the lady wanted nothing to do with me. I went to the hospital for treatment and received 15 stitches.

“I returned to the dog owner claiming compensation for my hospital bill, but again she refused and chased me away. I had no option but to go to the police to open a case against the owner.”

The RECORD consulted the dog owner, who said:: “The young girl’s sad story is untrue. She was very intoxicated and she refused when I offered to dress her wounds and to wait for an ambulance. All she wanted was money. She is always intoxicated when she comes to my house for food or money, which we give her regularly.

“According to the police she did open a case but then withdrew it, saying she realised that she will be jeopardising her supply of a daily plate of food or money. The whole story is untrue, the girl did not even want me to take her to hospital. My gate was locked and the dog never attacked her in the street. It is very sad that she now has to lie about the incident.”
