The Bag Lady

What's The Bag Lady been up to this week? Checking out Easter treats, loving new winter fashion and visiting a barber's shop

I don’t know about you but I’m sick of all the wet weather, enough is enough! I’m still fortunate compared to so many who have had to leave their flooded homes and who have lost loved ones in the floods. I think whichever party gets elected in the May elections, they have a lot of work to do to get this country up to first world standards, I don’t envy them one bit!

I know it sounds crazy but I’ve actually missed the sound of my washing machine. Here’s hoping the weekend will be bright, warm and sunny.

Winter wear

More and more winter clothing is making its way into stores and shops. I don’t enjoy winter at all but I have to admit some of the winter clothing is gorgeous. If you see something you absolutely love, don’t delay, buy today! Last year I spotted a beautiful knitted winter dress and decided to wait a while until the weather became cooler. I regretted it because the dress sold out and I couldn’t locate it at any of the other store’s branches.

Easter treats

The same goes with buying Easter treats. The less expensive eggs, rabbits, etc, go first and if you leave it too late you’ll be forced to buy the more expensive items. I learnt my lesson a few years ago and now buy the grandchildren all the same eggs as soon as they appear in the shops. Not that I’m mean but one year all I could find was the Lindt Rabbit, far too expensive for young children! They don’t know the difference between expensive or less expensive chocolate, in fact the bigger the egg/ rabbit the better, whichever brand chocolate it is!

Focus on Local

With most hair salons being unisex, some men prefer the old “fashioned” barber of yesterday. The Playboys at Bracken City in Brackenhurst has been here for about 20 years and offers a wonderful service for gents, scholars and pensioners. You can have your hair cut and get a shave! How’s that for service. While I was there, a customer was having his hair cut and said, “I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The quality of the hair cut is great and service from the staff is second to none.”

Barbers, Julian Wilder, Bishiw and Said Mikhaiel, will give you a great haircut.

The shop is owned by Peter Scoutaridis. “I’d like to thank all our customers for their valued support over the years.” The Playboys is open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 07:00 to 13:00. Contact 011 867 0549011 867 0549/ 081 210 3895081 210 3895. No appointments can be made but barbers Bishiw and Said Mikhaiel, Julian Wilder and Byron Hana, won’t keep you waiting long.

Lemon of the Week

Georgina would like to warn other customers to be careful if spending vouchers at shops. “I had complained about viennas from Tiger Brands and they had sent me vouchers to make up for the inedible goods. I went along to Pick n Pay at Bracken City and presented my vouchers at the till on my way out. It was Pensioner’s Day so I always receive my 5% discount, but because I used the vouchers the discount fell away. I was very upset and told the cashier so.”

Bouquet of the Week

A satisfied Clicks customer gives a bouquet to the Store Manager of Clicks at Glenvista Shopping Centre. “Regrettably I did not get his name but while I was waiting for a prescription to be filled there was a terrific racket next to the pharmacy in-store. I went over to ask them – not very politely I may add –  to be quiet as I had a headache. Later the Store Manager phoned me, he had obviously gone to the trouble to locate me through the pharmacist who had attended to me, to apologise for the terrible noise made by the staff, but apparently they had just apprehended shoplifters! Of course I accepted his apology, but he deserves a bouquet for going to the trouble to locate me and to apologise.”

That’s it for this week. E-mail: juliem@caxton with shopping news. Enjoy your week and shop till you drop!
