Badminton player to compete Internationally

Alberton Badminton player gets to go overseas and participate in the sport he is passionate about

TASHLIN Hamid, a 20-year-old Randhart resident, is a keen badminton player who attended Alberton High school and is currently enrolled at Wits University, studying BCom Marketing.

He has been selected to represent SA Universities and compete in the World University Badminton championships to be held in Spain in July this year.

He started playing badminton at the age of 13 and through the years his passion for the sport grew. “Badminton is the fastest racket sport in the world, with the fastest smash recorded at 493km per hour. It is a quick sport, so you have to be physically fit and mentally strategic to match your opponent and adapt to every situation on the court,” explained Tashlin.

He trains with and looks up to his coach, Stewart Carson, who is currently the Senior National coach of South Africa. “When I play, I enjoy not only receiving positive feedback from him but also ways to improve my game.”

Tashlin has been playing at a senior level for the past two years and plays against very stiff competition from both experienced and national players.

“I’m very happy and proud to be selected to represent my country and play on an international level. Finally, my training and dedication to the sport has paid off,” said Tashlin.
