SAPS target suspects and criminal activity

SAPS are on the move as they continue to fight crime in the area.

ALBERTON – From February 14 to 16, the SAPS had operations and arrested 119 suspects for crimes committed around the Alberton area.

Lieutenant Colonel Maswanganyi was in charge of the operations and Captain Matlou was second in command, while under their command were W/O Ngobeni, W/O Mabaso, Sgt Thangwana, Sgt Nkuna, Sgt Mongalo, Sgt Mgedezi, Sgt Gys, Sgt Khosa, Sgt Ledwaba , Const Nhtlane, Const Mdluli, Const Mabasa, Const Moloto, Const Koza and Const Nhlapo.

The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from illegal immigrant, possession of stolen motor vehicle, drunk in public, theft, trespassing, common assault, possession of dagga, dealing with drugs, intimidation, shoplifting, housebreaking, selling liquor without a licence, possession of stolen property, criminal injuries, rape, and assault GBH.

The following items were confiscated or recovered: liquor, knives, dagga, a car, DVD’S and drugs. “This operation is a success and a Valentine’s Day to us as less crime was reported,” said Sergeant Nkuna.

Drugs to the value of around R20 000 was recovered by the Metro Police, with a Nigerian suspect that was not arrested for the first time for the same offence. Around Alberton, the flying squad had recovered a Toyota Fortuner that was stolen in Mpumalanga, while doing routine stop and search.

“Well done members. Nothing illegal must come into or pass via Alberton. Let us keep on doing stop and search,” said Sergeant Nkuna.
