No smart card ID for Alberton

Residents of Alberton will have to wait a little longer before receiving Smart ID cards.

ALBERTON – Community members have been asking about the new ID Smart card and if it will be available at the Alberton Home Affairs. The Smart ID card has already taken off and covers the Gauteng areas Soweto, Alaska, Byron Place in Pretoria and Harrison Street in Johannesburg.

A community member raised concerns and expressed her feelings on the issue about the other places being too far for her to get to, and that it would be convenient if there were a similar facility at the Alberton branch. She falls within the necessary age group and valid months in which to apply for the card.

Alberton Home Affairs have no valid Smart Card ID services at present, and when the concern was raised, the communication officer at Alberton Home Affairs said that the Alberton branch is not yet ready.

The communication officer Ronnie Mamoepa of Home Affairs said, “The community should take a look at the website, which will inform them about where they can find the Home Affairs facilities that issue the Smart I.D. cards.”

The website is: https://www.dha.gov.za:8087/
