Pedestrians will cross that bridge

Swartkoppies bridge will finally be reconstructed after pedestrians could not use the bridge for more than four years.

BRACKENHURST – The Swartkoppies bridge, which was partially knocked down by a truck in 2011, will finally be reconstructed, after plans have passed through the correct channels.

Consulting engineers were appointed for the design of the bridge in November 2013 and in January the construction documents were delivered to Ekurhuleni.

However, before actual work can begin on the bridge, a date must be set to advertise a tender to come forward to build according to the specs. This will be filtered through a committee.

After the tenders are handed in, it will be passed on to the bid evaluation committee, which will then go to the bid adjudication committee.

Councillor Visser says it was indicated to her that the bridge will be fixed by the end of the year and, if all goes well and the plans are followed through correctly, it might even show a lot of progress by June.

“I would just like the community to know that it is not me as ward councillor who is leaving the issue unattended, it is just a matter of getting it done by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality adhering to prescribed processes,” added Councillor Visser.
