Rape-accused helped with search

A man who allegedly raped and murdered a four-year-old girl from Katlehong on the East Rand, led the search for her when she was discovered missing, The Star reported on Tuesday.

Keneiwe Tshabalala told the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Monday that when she and her mother began searching for her daughter, the man, Isaac Modise Motapane, offered to go looking for her with them.

“He said we could not go into [the] bushes alone as we are both [women] and that it was not safe for us,” Tshabalala was quoted as saying.

He led them to the veld and later to a dilapidated building where the girl was found strangled with a string and hung on the wall.

“He walked two paces inside the building, and as we followed him, he shouted ‘Oh, here is the child’. ”

Tshabalala testified that Motapane had visited their home on the day the girl was raped and killed in September 2013.

Motapane has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
