Volunteers urgently needed

Ligstad after Care Centre has grown immensely since its humble beginnings in September 2012.

ALBERTON – The growth and successes achieved are mainly the result of the hard work and commitment of volunteers who sacrifice their time to help the children during weekday afternoons from 14:30 till 16:00. The only payment these volunteers receive is the grateful smiles and the appreciation of the parents.

Ligstad has been blessed with 15 volunteers in 2013. This number has decreased to 10 volunteers at present, whereas the number of children have increased from 48 at the end of 2013 to 54 at present. The volunteers who resigned did so due to health and/or employment reasons and they are sorely missed.

They take pride in the fact that we give individual attention to our children with their homework. The ideal volunteer-to-child ration for Ligstad is one volunteer for every eight children on any given weekday. Unfortunately this goal cannot be obtained at present. The current ratio is one volunteer for every 13 children on a good day.

We need the community to assist us by becoming involved as a volunteer for Ligstad’s Aftercare centre. No specific academic qualifications are needed to become part of Ligstad’s aftercare centre, but parents know that their children will be served with the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Ligstad.

Since opening 3 September 2012, more or less 75 children have been accommodated at the aftercare centre and a remarkable improvement was noted in their academic achievements as well as their total individual functioning. A deepening was noted in their faith and for all of them the highlight of the week is the praise and worship sessions on Friday afternoons.

Ligstad is a place where every child is offered the opportunity to grow into the adult they were created to be and with the support of the community it is possible to expand the services of Ligstad in order to offer more children the opportunity to develop optimally. All the above is done in dependence on Jesus Christ, our Leader and Provider.

Should you be interested to become part of the aftercare centre as a volunteer you are welcome to phone Trix at 079 693 3666. Afrikaans and English speaking persons are needed.
