Lesedi programme students show off their cooking skills

Students of the Lesedi programme VIP luncheon at Emperors

ALBERTON – On January 29, Lesedi programme students created a three course meal for VIP participants in order for them to see and get a taste of how they have progressed in their cooking skills. The event was held at the Prima Vera in Emperors Palace. The starter included an Asian vegetable stirfry with assorted nuts served in a fried noodle basket with grilled haloumi cheese. The main course consisted of braised beef fillet with a herb butter served on a bed of creamy risotto and seasonal vegetables. The dessert was Mille Feuille with fresh strawberries and a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails while drinks were served throughout. The Lesedi programme was designed to offer a unique and innovative solution to the problem of unemployment by offering training opportunities to the youth of Ekurhuleni in the form of learnerships. Through hard work and dedication, young people are able to complete a certificate in one of the following hospitality courses: food & beverage, hotel reception or professional cookery. The training provider TTIBSA offers theory-based lessons in the Emperors Palace training centre and all the practical hours for the qualification are available at Emperors Palace. On completion the candidates are well trained and ready to enter the working environment. Young people are selected from the Ekurhuleni area for their dedication and passion for the industry. Currently Emperors Palace is hosting 27 Hospitality learners. Over 500 young people have received training since the inception of the Peermont Education Trust.
