Leaping high at the IDO World Hip Hop Championships

Seven dance students qualified to compete in the IDO World Hip Hop Championships.

ALBERTON – Shane Van Straaten, Principal of Shané’s School of Dancing, and several of her students qualified to compete in the IDO World Hip Hop, Electric Boogie and Breakdance Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2013, in which 35 countries participated.

To qualify to represent South Africa at the International Competition in Denmark they had to compete at various National Competitions in South Africa.

Shané qualified in the Adult 2 Section – Small Group and Formation. For the Small Group “Vision”, she obtained a gold medal and for the Frmation “Full Circle”, she obtained a silver medal. This is indeed an outstanding achievement.

Her dancers qualified in the 16 and over section. Their Small Group ‘SWAG’ came 14th and the Formation “Creed Elite” obtained 22nd place, which is an excellent achievement, as this is a very young group, with five of their members under the age of 16.

Joshua Buys, who is a teacher and choreographer for Shané’s School of Dancing, obtained 7th place with his Electric Boogie Solo. Well done Josh!
