MEYERSDAL –
An accident in Michelle Avenue, Meyersdal occurred on Wednesday morning at about 07:00, resulting in a four car pile-up, with two of the motorists sustaining injuries.
An eye-witness who saw the accident happen, said: “The driver of the first car in the pile-up was travelling in the right hand lane coming down Michelle Avenue towards Randhart and it looked like she tried to cut-in to the left hand lane, which goes straight at the traffic lights.
“The other drivers in the pile-up had no chance to stop. This is becoming an extremely busy road at peak-hour times and there has already been quite a few pervious accidents at this same spot.”
Speaking to another motorist at the accident scene, she said, “Drivers cut-in every morning. They race down the outside lane to avoid the queue of traffic and then cut-in the left lane as the fast lane is a right turn lane only. The police should come and sit here in a morning and see how badly motorists behave.”
“Since the e-tolls came into being the traffic is becoming worse here every day! Michelle Avenue isn’t built to handle massive volumes of traffic and it also runs through a residential area,” said a motorist at the scene.
EMPD and EMS attended the accident scene. The two injured were taken to local hospitals for medical treatment.
