Eezi Recycling on Facebook

A new Facebook page was created by a community member encouraging people to recycle.

BRACKENDOWNS – Lauren Martens and her husband are Brackendowns residents who noticed that the hawkers would come around on rubbish days and dig through the bins for recyclable materials.

Thehawkers then take these materials to various sites where they get a bit of cash. Lauren and her husband decided to make their lives a bit easier and bought extra bins to keep in their kitchen.

“We have one bin for plastic, one for paper and one for glass, and we are in the process of getting another bin for tins and cans,” said Lauren.

She explained that they take these bags out with the normal rubbish bags on rubbish collection day, although the recycling bags are left on the side of the bin.

This saves hawkers having to dig through garbage and provides them with extra space in their black bin for everyday waste. “And of course we are helping the environment,” she added.

The two started wondering why everybody is not doing this. Lauren then started a Facebook page called Eezie Recycling. She would like to encourage readers and community members to visit the site and recycle.

“The page is a simple way of reminding people how and why to recycle, with amusing anecdotes,” added Lauren.
