‘No better leader than Malema’ – Kotze

The man with the red beret is from Alberton and is proud of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.

ALBERTON – Wiekus Kotze, an Alberton resident, believes no other leader in South Africa matches Julius Malema’s leadership abilities. He says, “Malema knows exactly what this country needs. His interests are for all the people in South Africa.”

Asked what he thought of the banner that read, ‘Honeymoon over for whites’; Kotze said, “Honeymoon is over for white people.” He believes one of the mistakes from the CODESA talks was an agreement made that white people would still be able to keep what they have.

He says, “Today the minority still enjoys their wealth, while the majority remain poor.”

Kotze moved from the African National Congress (ANC) to Agang, and now he has made headlines as the Afrikaner with the red beret.

Kotze was first drawn into politics back in 1993, when he heard former President Nelson Mandela chose to forgive the then apartheid government.

He says, “I was encouraged by how Mandela was motivated by forgiveness. It was then I wanted to be part of the solution by joining the ANC.”

After 16 years of involvement in the ANC, he left the party because he believed the party ‘lost direction’. From the ANC, he joined the newly formed Agang and lasted there only six months.

He says, “There were certain things I did not agree with while in the party.” Kotze claims Agang leader Dr Mamphele Ramphele would say something in public, but would not practice what she preached.
