Water wasted in Brackenhurst

Contractor damages mainline causing a mighty gush of water in Brackenhurst.

BRACKENHURST – On January 15, a community member complained about a hydrant that did not stop spraying water in Nasturtium Street, Brackenhurst. The community member said the hydrant could have been tampered with and the water never stopped spraying from morning till noon.

The resident tried to call the EMM but she could not get through after numerous tries during the course of the day.

Emails were sent to the EMM for a response on what could have caused it. The reply on January 17 was: “Rand Water’s contractor unfortunately damaged a council mainline in Nasturtium Street, Brackenhurst. In order to repair the mainline, we drained the system through the hydrant to enable us to work on the system. The system is back to normal.”

The community member informed the RECORD that the problem was rectified by early morning of January 16.
