New school year starts with pig tails and spikes

Schools in Alberton welcome new grade one learners, kicking off with many exciting activities

ALBERTON – January 15 was the first day of school for many little children starting their educational years. The year 2025 will see many hopeful scholars matriculate.

It was unclear who were more anxious, the parents or the grade one learners. Teachers welcomed the families from as early as 07:00.

Most of the children walked into the room with obvious confidence, while others looked a bit overwhelmed and many gripped mom or dad’s hand not really certain about what was going on.

Teachers also readied themselves and very quickly got to know their class learners, calling some by their names.

Pens, books, school bags, neat school outfits and plenty of good manners were part of the scenes and sounds at all the schools, with learners putting the best foot forward.

Although it was a busy and productive day, the learners seemed to settle in well at their new schools, among friends and teachers.
